Baseball Costume Ideas

by Jeremy

Here are some DIY baseball costume for Halloween, a costume party or even to wear to a game. For most of us we’re not willing to spend an arm and a leg on a costume when we could easily do ourselves. So, have no fear, as I am here to give you 10 DIY baseball costumes that are quite cost effective. Of course, if you are willing to pay any arm and a leg most of these costumes can be found online or in stores.

Baseball Costume Ideas

1: Baseball Player

First off we have a very easy and practical costume. This can be put together quickly with things many of us already have. Simply obtain an old (or new) jersey, baseball pants, a hat, and if you want to get really fancy, some spikes. Most, if not all, of these items can be purchased at a local thrift store for only a few dollars.

*Optional: Add some eye black to really bring it all together.

2: Zombie Baseball Player

This one’s really easy, too. Simply get all your baseball player stuff, add some rips and tears, and slap on some zombie make-up. (Zombie make-up can be as simple or as complicated as you please and there are some great tutorials out there.)

Boom. You’re now a zombie.

*Note: This is where you may want to utilize your local thrift shop so you don’t destroy some precious memories. Trust me, you’ll find some amazing deals.

3: Baseball Tummy

If you want your new baby to love baseball, start ’em early. Grab an old white t-shirt and a red drawing utensil of your choice. Draw some laces where your tummy is. Ta-da! You’ve got a baseball.

*As neither I nor anyone in the house is a mommy-to-be, I couldn’t photograph this one. Please enjoy my editing skills.

4: Baseball Card

You’re going to need a big piece of cardboard. Any big piece of anything, really. You can make it out of smaller pieces attached together, or, to make things a bit easier, many stores have huge cardboard boxes that they’d be more than willing to give you.

Now, you’ve got some options. You can print, draw, trace, etc. Whatever makes you happy. Use a baseball card as reference and get to making. Cut a hole for your face; this is your card. (You could also be an actual player. This is especially fun with players who have prominent mustaches. Just sayin’.) Add some arm holes as well if you’d like for easier movement.

Add whatever stats you’d like. Are you good or should you’ve never stepped on a field? It’s all up to you. (This would be the back of the card, so feel free to just skip this step.)

If you’ve got arm holes, that should pretty much take care of whole not dropping it thing. If you don’t or it’s just not working, have no fear. Grab an old backpack you don’t care much about and attach your card to it. Put it on front-facing and you’ve got yourself a cheap costume suspension system.

5: Baseball Baby

Babies are cute. They’re even cuter when they look like a baseball. Simply find a white shirt or onesie, and just like the Baseball Tummy, draw some laces on it.

Done. Your child is a baseball.

*If you’ve got a really tiny baby, put him in a glove for added effect. Super cute, I promise.

*I do not have a tiny baby so I used a doll in the photo.

6: Trophy

This makes you look super cool and you will get loads of compliments.

You’re going to need some gold body paint and gold fabric/acrylic paint. I’ve realized that these aren’t the cheapest things to buy, but they’re basically the only things you need, so all-in-all your costume will still be inexpensive. However, I have done some thorough research and here are the cheapest prices I’ve found.

Body Paint (Amazon)

Body Paint (Party City)

Fabric Paint (Joann Fabrics)

Acrylic Paint (Hobby Lobby)

(In this situation, I would recommend acrylic paint because it’s much cheaper and it gets the job done.)

Grab your baseball uniform and a bat or old glove if you want. Again, these can be purchased at a thrift store. Paint these items with either the acrylic paint or the fabric paint.

Next, paint whatever of you is showing with the body paint. (Don’t use acrylic on skin as it isn’t typically safe, especially on sensitive skin.)

To finish it off, you can make a little stand to perch upon out of pretty much anything that’s square and strong enough to stand on. (I used a stool with some paper covering it.)

All done. You’re the shiniest trophy on the shelf.

7: A League of Their Own

Great movies make for great costumes.

Super simple. All you need is a pink dress/shirt and skirt and a red belt. You can also get some red socks and shoes of your choice.

You can add whatever decals you’d like by drawing or printing them and taping them on.

Complete.

8: Vintage Baseball

Dress like the hall of fame players from the early 1900s like Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio. Simply buy knickers, a vintage jersey with rounded necklines & buttons and a brass belt. Check out ebay for a vintage glove or pick up an old wood bat at a used sporting goods store.

9: Sexy Baseball Player Costume

The title should be self explanatory and I might blush putting too much detail. Examples of these costumes can be seen with a quick Google search. Basically all you need is a full button down jersey, baseball cap, and high socks with horizontal lines (high heels optional). Other accessories to include are a bat, glove and eye black.

10: Umpire

Nobody likes umpires. But I suppose dressing up as one could be fun.

You just need a blue/black polo and gray/black pants. Add the MLB decal by printing it and attaching it.

For the mask you can either get a used catchers mask (or something similar) or you can simply just draw it on with anything that’s safe on skin.

Done and done.

There you have it. Ten DIY Baseball costumes that won’t break the bank. Keep in mind that all of these can be altered for cold weather by layering up. Have fun, stay warm, and play on!
